Scope and content
A file of five original letters from Rev. Henry Edward Manning, a priest and archdeacon of the Church of England who converted to Catholicism in 1851. He was later appointed the second Catholic Archbishop of Westminster and was subsequently consecrated a cardinal. All the letters are addressed to an individual named ‘Milliken’. Internal evidence suggests that Milliken was a religious, possibly an Anglican priest. The letters mainly relay personal news with some reference to ecclesiastical and theological matters.
