Scope and content
The subseries comprises a collection of original autograph letters and historical ephemera assembled by Fr. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap., the editor of ‘The Capuchin Annual’. It appears that much of this material was acquired by Father Senan at auctions of rare documents and historical memorabilia. The collection includes letters from prominent political, literary, artistic, and religious figures.
Literary & Artistic Figures: Includes original letters and items from various political figures, writers and artists such as George Bernard Shaw, William Gladstone, Thomas Moore, William Butler Yeats, George Moore, William Allingham, Alice Meynell, and even the tenor Enrico Caruso.
Political & Revolutionary Leaders: Features autographs from key figures in the Irish independence movement, most notably Michael Collins, Maud Gonne MacBride, and George Gavan Duffy.
Ecclesiastical Correspondence: Contains letters from notable church figures, including Ercole Consalvi, Charles Erskine, Henry Edward Manning and others.
Historical Ephemera: Beyond letters, the collection includes autograph slips, signed prints (such as one of Nellie Melba), and manuscript copies of poems and anthems, like the ‘Himno de la Independencia de Brasil’.
