Scope and content
A letter from Thomas Moore, Sackville Street, Dublin, to Lady Shrewsbury (Maria Theresa Talbot). He apologizes for running away ‘in such an unceremonious manner’ from what was presumably a party the previous night. Moore explains his actions by claiming that ‘I have always made it a point to avoid singing where there are professional musicians; for, nervous as I am always in singing for any but intimate friends, this feeling of course becomes doubly painful when I am watched over by critical ears and eyes’.
