Aantekening
Deriving its title from an anglicised form of the Irish word for storyteller, ‘Shanachie’ was an illustrated magazine primarily for writers and artists. The first two issues appeared in 1906 and included a remarkable list of literary contributors such as George Bernard Shaw, William Butler Yeats, Lady Gregory, and John Millington Synge. It was illustrated with drawings by Jack Butler Yeats, William Orpen, George Morrow, and Grace Gifford. The cover design was by the Irish painter Beatrice Elvery (later known as Lady Glenavy). In total, only six numbers of ‘The Shanachie’ were published. The final edition of the quarterly magazine appeared in Winter 1907.
