Scope and content

A copybook containing varied notes in Irish (with some entries in English) on literary and historical subjects. The title page is dated 4 January 1924 and is signed by Br. Senan Moynihan. Reference is made in the notes to the writings of Professor Richard Henebry (1863-1916). The text reads ‘Dr. Henebry’s favourite hobby was the national music of Ireland and, though he never received formal tuition, he played almost every instrument. … As an exponent of traditional Irish music he probably had no living equal’. Other entries are titled ‘The Gaelic Journal Original’ and transcriptions of articles by Pádraig Ó Domhnaill (1856-1927) on Richard Henebry published in ‘An Claidheamh Soluis. Transcriptions from articles by Fr. Micheál Ó Síocháin (1871-1945) are also extant in the copybook.
