Pat Allman was a leading anti-Treaty figure during the Civil War. His family were well-known in Irish republican circles. His brother, Daniel Allman, was killed (21 March 1921) in an ambush at Headford Junction station during the War of Independence while his sister May Allman was a leading figure in Cumann na mBan. Another sibling, Fr. Myles Allman was a Catholic priest, and a noted clerical opponent of the Treaty in County Kerry. Pat Allman served as a commanding officer of an anti-Treaty IRA battalion in Kerry during the Civil War and was wounded during the conflict, evidently succumbing to his injuries some years later.
