Note
An illustration by ‘Mórna’, most likely a pseudonym for Austin Molloy (1886-1961), commemorating Arthur Griffith is extant on the front page of this edition of ‘Young Ireland / Éire Óg’ (19 August 1922). Griffith was an Irish writer and politician, serving as President of Dáil Éireann from January 1922 until his death (aged fifty-one) on 12 August 1922. Founded and later edited by Aodh de Blacam (1891-1951), ‘Young Ireland’ was a Sinn Féin newspaper which sought to encourage nationalistic sentiments in Irish children and young adults.
