A menu and toast card for a banquet held in the Mansion House in Dublin on 4 February 1890 to mark the election of Edward Joseph Kennedy as Lord Mayor of Dublin. Born in County Cavan in 1851, Kennedy was a member of the Irish Parliamentary Party. Kennedy was elected as a Member of Parliament for South Sligo in 1887. He served as Sheriff of Dublin in 1885 and was Lord Mayor of the city from 1890 to 1891. Toasts were given at the banquet to Queen Victoria, ‘the legislative independence of Ireland’, and ‘the prosperity of Dublin’.
