Scope and content

A letter from Austin Stack, 167 Strand Road, Merrion, Dublin, referring to the recent general election (9 June 1927). Stack refers to the success of Éamon de Valera’s Fianna Fáil at the election and his hopes that its members will return to the abstentionist Sinn Féin party. Stack writes ‘I know that De Valera has courage of the highest kind, and should he realise that he is making a mistake, I believe he would have no hesitation in declaring it and doing the right thing. … I do hope that everywhere our faithful friends will stand together and continue to work and to hold ever more strongly to their faith’.
