It reads: ‘This book contains a specimen of the handwriting of Fr. William Berry OFM Cap. called in the world William Berry, son of William Berry and Margaret Kelly of [the] parish of Drumcary, Westmeath. Received in Bar-sur-Aube, Dec. 10, 1765 aged 22 years. Ordained St. Malo, 1770. Died in Kilkenny Oct. 20, 1822’.
