The Society again wish to put before the Archbishop the appalling housing conditions that still exist in Dublin and feel the Corporation and Government are making no real effort to improve the position. The Society now wishes to meet the Archbishop so as to ask him to use his influence with the authorities to bring such conditions to an end. At a General Meeting of this organisation many expressed their concern at the continued silence of the Church towards the vital problem of housing. They feel the Church cannot be fully aware of the terrible problems confronting young people and think it is now time for it to intervene and approach the Government. 5/ 4/2. 14 May 1942 Typed letter to + McQuaid from P.J. Berrill, Joint Secretary, Homes for Irishmen League. The Committee invites the Archbishop or his representative to their meeting in the Mansion House, 20 May. They wish to know the views of the Archbishop on the spiritual and moral dangers arising from the housing situation.
