Scope and content

Administrative documentation and letter regarding the management, enrolment criteria, and canonical regulations of ‘The Pact’, a mutual spiritual association for Roman Catholic secular clergy within the Northern Division of the Diocese of Salford. Includes a printed four-page governance booklet dated 1 December 1894, which details the historical origin of the association via papal rescript, an official imprimatur by the Bishop of Salford, and six regulations signed by Registrar C. J. Gadd, V.G. governing mandatory record-keeping for deceased member priests and manual Masses. With an accompanying letter dated 1 August 1905 written from All Saints’ Rectory by Monsignor Gadd to a ‘Dear Fr. John’, requesting his full Christian name for official enrolment into the association and enclosing the aforementioned rulebook. The ‘Fr. John’ is possibly Fr. John Butler OFM Cap.
