Clipping from ‘The Cork Examiner’; detailing the passing and legacy of Fr. Simeon Gaudillot OFM Cap. who died at an advanced age in Belgium. The text outlines his foundational historical links to the city of Cork and the establishment of the modern Irish Capuchin Province, noting his arrival in 1875 alongside four or five other French Capuchins sent by their Provincial. It explicitly traces the history of the Holy Trinity Church on Charlotte Quay, noting how Irish compatriots Father O’Leary and Father O’Donoghue maintained the ministry following Father Mathew’s era, followed by a period of Italian priestly administration. The obituary emphasizes Father Simeon’s zeal and assiduity as Commissary General, which consolidated the Province before his departure from Cork in 1882, and concludes with a testament to the enduring reverence and deep regret felt by the public in Cork city upon learning of his death.
