Scope and content

Letter from Fr. Thomas Dowling OFM Cap. to Fr. Peter Bowe OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, reporting on mission work and fundraising activities in California. He refers to a successful mission just completed at St. Monica’s (San Francisco), noting it was the first mission ever held there. The Archbishop has assigned him to lecture at the Cathedral in June for the Society of the Holy Family. He mentions this is a ‘big occasion’ that usually raises about $6,000. Father Thomas notes that Monsignor Cantwell (then Bishop of Los Angeles) made inquiries about the Capuchins in Mendocino County and expressed great interest in their mission work.
