Scope and content
Letter from Fr. Thomas Dowling OFM Cap. to Fr. Peter Bowe OFM Cap. referring to a recent well-attended service at the cathedral in San Francisco at which he preached. He writes ‘We had a wonderful day this last Sunday. The Sistine Choir from Rome sang at Pontifical High Mass. The Archbishop had all the diocesan dignitaries standing around him and such was the throng of people of all denominations that a force of police had to regulate traffic outside the Cathedral and keep out thousands seeking for admission which was by ticket. All the Millionaires and heads of Corporations were present. The Archbishop insisted we broadcast the special sermon’.
