Letter from Fr. Stephen Murtagh OFM Cap. to Fr. Colman Griffin OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, discussing the ongoing tensions between the Capuchin Order’s development and the local Diocese’s expectations. A major point of contention involves a proposed school. Father Stephen clarifies that the Order’s primary concern is its own development and that it cannot assume financial responsibility for a project costing ‘some thousands of dollars’ that is not in the Order’s name. The letter mentions a site at Roseburg given to the Order by Archbishop Christie. To move forward with any property changes, the author suggests the Provincial Minister petition the Holy See for the ‘alienation of the property’ to ensure legal and religious protocols are followed. Reference is also made to Fr. Alban Cullen’s appointment to Santa Inés.
