              Typed report on Fianna Fail Organisation on Dun Laoire-Rathdown. During the past eighteen months there has been an underhand move to hurt Sean Brady T.D. and boost the Booth Bros., Lionel and Basil. Basil started the controversy in County Council on the topic of Scholarships. Matt Cullen pointed out that the minority in the Republic got far more concessions in percentage to their population than the Catholics. Brady blamed by the Booths for letters to the Press disassociating himself and the FF Party from the action of the Booths. Heated debate followed. De Valera met Sean Brady and Councillors from A. Brady threatened to resign from FF if Booth does not apologise. A man called Dolski must be treated with caution. Uneasiness with some members of the Pork Butchers’ Branch of the Workers Union of Ireland (WUI). Larkin wants them to have the same hours as Beef Butchers and has threatened strike even though victory would cause economic problems. No. 37, Pembroke Road reported sold.

              Typed note. Possibility De Valera will retire from public life and Lemass will probably succeed. His success in holding the party together will depend on the action the splinter groups within the National Executive take. Hard to know which way Charles Houghey [sic] [Haughey], Dr. Ryan, Noel Lemass, Dan Breen will go as each is there to foster their own interest. Donal Nevin and Jeffares have replaced Larkin and de Courcy Ireland in the Labour Party. The IHA received a legacy of £300 from Rebecca West. The chance of it going out of existence is gone. In CIE Riordan got 134 votes in election representative to the Management. Its not that the men want him but they feel he is able to push their case for them.

              Anonymous handwritten letter to + McQuaid, sent from Kaapstad, Cape Town, South Africa. Received on 11 March 1947. Congratulates the Archbishop for visiting James Larkin. Catholic workers are touched by this. Asks God to bless + McQuaid for multiplying parishes and churches. Pleads consideration for “praying the Mass”. The curate reads the Mass in English while it is being celebrated in Latin. People now follow it as never before. The young generation realize the “truth and beauty” of the Mass liturgy.
