              Typed minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following items are mentioned in the report: Murphy, T.D., was recently elected as the T.D. as the candidate for the unemployed. He was only in Ireland for about six weeks so it is difficult to understand how he organised support. Fr. Tuohy to make enquiries. Brannigan held a meeting in the Mansion House, attendance 80 achieved nothing. It was suggested that the ‘liberals’ seem to have easy access to Radio Eireann. Director, Mr. Gorham, a stranger. How did he contact ‘liberals’? Who are the civil servants in charge?

The meaning of Murphy’s (ex T.D.) resignation discussed. D. Fennel, ex Belvedere and ex Opus Dei. Has written articles on China and Northern Irish Catholics. Another copy of The Plough appeared. The Socialist Review is due out soon. Fr. Tuohy to speak to Mr. Owen Dudley Edwards on the matter of the 1913 Club.               Typed minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following items are mentioned in the report: Fr. Tuohy to obtain report on Letchford. Doody wrote a letter to The Irish Times “with reference to the Government obtaining a mandate declaring war.” Brannigan won his appeal against expulsion from the Union and is likely to be elected General Secretary of the Seamen’s Union. His lack of training as a seaman was mentioned.

              Handwritten minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. Fr. Tuohy submitted a full report on M. O’Riordan and was informed by the local clergy that O’Riordan did not have a change of heart. As far as Fr. Tuohy knows Nolan has not been to Russia. Members to find out who is the head of the Communist Party in Ireland and information on John de Courcey Ireland, George Jeffares and Hilda Alberry.

              Typed letter to + McQuaid. The Committee feel that more work would be done if member specialized. It was suggested and agreed that there should be two Committees, A and B. Committee A to include Msgr. O’Halloran, Fr. Crean (Communism), Fr. Kent (Trade Unions), Fr. Tuohy (University) and Fr. McMahon. Committee B to include Mgr. O’Halloran, Fr. Clarke (newspapers and periodicals), Fr. Fehily (radio and TV) and Fr. McMahon. Note in + McQuaid’s handwriting says “Very well: if it works”.

              Typed minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following items are mentioned in the report: T. Graham, K. Nolan and C. Clarke of The Plough to be investigated. A full report on the Czech/motor trade for next meeting. A discussion on the International soccer match between Czecho-Slovakia and the Irish Republic was held. Felt Irish public should be educated in implications of such fixtures with Communist-dominated states. Suggested this could be done by an article in the newspapers facts should first be ascertained, maybe from Douglas Hyde. Letter in The Irish Times concerning the proposal of having US bases in Ireland. Fr. Tuohy to find out if de Courcey Ireland was leaving for Australia. Could Australian Authorities be warned?
