Letter from +O’Hara to +McQuaid asking if Ireland has ever been consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus or to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by an official act of the Hierarchy. He has been asked this question by the Canadian Hierarchy.
Letter from +McQuaid to +O’Hara stating that Ireland was solemnly consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Passion Sunday, 13 March 1873, a fact which is commemorated by exposition in all churches in Dublin each Passion Sunday, with a renewal of the consecration. On 15 March 1943, a resolution was passed by the Irish Bishops that every parish and diocese in Ireland was consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
