Veterinary students in Ireland are awarded the Diploma of Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (M.R.C.V.S.) when they qualify. Trinity College wish to confer a degree instead. This might encourage the abler students to do post graduate research which is badly needed. +McQuaid points out that the education of Catholic Students in his diocese is a matter of the gravest import to the Hierarchy.

He had the courage….to lead his men to Mass every Sunday in Belfast, bands playing and banners flying. It takes a very brave man to do that in Balfost (sic)’.
