              Correspondence between +McQuaid and James Ryan, Minister for Agriculture. Veterinary students in Ireland are awarded the Diploma of Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (M.R.C.V.S.) when they qualify. Trinity College wish to confer a degree instead. This might encourage the abler students to do post graduate research which is badly needed. +McQuaid points out that the education of Catholic Students in his diocese is a matter of the gravest import to the Hierarchy.

              Letter from Fr. Thomas F. Ryan, Stella Maris, Sandymount, to McQuaid, stating that Major Roger Fitzgerald-Lombard is seeking an introduction. He is a prominent member of the Knights of Malta and two of his daughters are members of the Holy Child nuns. He also quotes Cardinal McRory saying that ‘Roger is a very brave man. He had the courage….to lead his men to Mass every Sunday in Belfast, bands playing and banners flying. It takes a very brave man to do that in Balfost (sic)’.
