A newspaper clipping announcing that Bishop Louis B. Kucera has appointed Rev. Thomas M. Kealy, a Veterans’ hospital chaplain and associate editor of ‘The Register’, as the new pastor of Sacred Heart church to succeed the withdrawing Irish Capuchin fathers. The article includes an official statement from the bishop explaining that the Very Rev. Stephen Murtagh OFM Cap., the American representative of the Irish Capuchins, conducted a personal survey of the parish and determined it must be relinquished due to a shortage of priests. Because Lincoln’s Sacred Heart was their only church in the midwestern states, the order’s general chapter in Dublin decided it was too geographically isolated to be served conveniently alongside their existing novitiate in Delaware and missions on the west coast.
