The Capuchin Franciscan Province of Our Lady of Angels of the Portiuncula (commonly known as the Western American Province) was officially established on 18 April 1979. Authorised under the Capuchin Minister General, Fr. Pascal Rywalski OFM Cap., this milestone marked the transition of the western United States mission from a dependent custody into a fully autonomous province.
