Scope and content
A petition, submitted by siblings John, Johanna, Ellen, and Michael Crotty of Loughane, County Cork, to Reverend Maurice M. O’Callaghan, P.P. of Cloyne, the President of Rochestown (Capuchin) Monastery, and the President of All Hallows College contesting the distribution of their late uncle William Crotty’s estate. The petitioners detail how an order by the Master of the Rolls legally awarded their sister, Mary Crotty, absolute ownership of their uncle's house and bank shares in Ballycotton, valued at approximately £1,000, free from the strict constraints and family inheritance provisions outlined in his original 1912 will and 1915 codicil. Citing their years of uncompensated physical and material care for their uncle before his death in 1915, the petitioners appeal to the two religious institutions – co-beneficiaries assigned the remainder of the property to fund the education of priests for Foreign Missions – requesting an equitable financial payout from the Residue of the Estate to compensate them for their legal and structural losses.
