              Letter from +Cushing to +McQuaid stating Cardinal Dalton has invited him to give the sermon at the 1500 anniversary commemoration of the death of St. Patrick. He cannot accept as he has been given an assignment in the West Indies. He asks for prayers for the National Seminary which is to be built in Boston and also for the Missionary Society of St. James the Apostle.

              On 17 March 1452, the feast of St. Patrick, the combined forces of Castile and Murcia defeated the Moors in the Battle of Alporchones, close to the city of Lorca. The church of St. Patrick of Lorca is called after St. Patrick to acknowledge the victory. The writer is asking + McQuaid for a relic of St. Patrick on the 500th anniversary of the battle.
