Overseas Missions: Bechuanaland ( Botswana ): copy letter from Fergus Loughry, C.P., to the Mission Secretary General, Caspar Caulfield, C.P. While on a visit to Botswana in January 1958, the Apostolic Delegate mentioned that he was now of the opinion that the Bechuanaland Protectorate, as it stood, would be best for the Passionists and that Mafeking or any other district beyond the borders need not be included. The new Prefecture Apostolic would be known as the Prefecture of Bechuanaland. He asked for the nomination of a suitable priest for the office, but Fergus declined to do so as it probably was a matter for the General Curia. Fergus thinks the Secretary General could confidently proceed to prepare the map of Bechuanaland. He wil also see what he can obtain concerning the history of Bechuanaland for the Secretary General.
