Letter from Fr. Stephen Murtagh OFM Cap. to Fr. Colman Griffin OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, concerning an urgent real estate and legal matter regarding the Flintridge property. Father Stephen reports that the California Highways Commission is exercising its right of eminent domain to seize one acre of the friary’s ten-acre property to build a new highway. Additionally, the neighbouring Public School is seizing three more acres, following a previous ten-acre acquisition. he Flintridge property was originally part of the Flintridge Golf Club. To compensate for the lost land and prepare for future needs, he has negotiated a ‘deal’ to purchase two additional acres from the golf club owners.
