Scope and content
Letter from Fr. Luke Sheehan OFM Cap., Bend, Oregon, to Fr. Angelus Healy OFM Cap. disusing the arrival of a new priest to assist the mission and his upcoming negotiations with the local Bishop regarding church infrastructure. He mentions a plan to visit ‘Warm Springs’ soon but fears the timing is ‘not a very opportune moment’. He notes that the Bishop recently sent another priest to visit there, likely to convince the ‘Indians’ (residents of the Warm Springs Reservation) that a resident priest is a necessity. He describes this as a ‘selection to be made’ that is likely to ‘throw the baptismal water on the first head he would meet’. He emphasizes the need for a ‘third point’ between the two missions.
