Bereik en inhoud

Circular letter from Fr. Eugene Carroll OFM Cap., College Rector, to various house guardians in the Irish Province. Father Eugene notes that due to the demanding nature of internal college activities, the academic staff are largely precluded from broader ministry works (such as missions, retreats, and parish work) that naturally facilitate vocational encouragement. To underscore that recruitment is a duty devolving upon the entire province, he quotes a substantial Latin passage from the ‘Analecta Ordinis’ (Vol. XXXIV, Fasc. VIII / IX) concerning the procurement of candidates for Seraphic Schools.

He provides a statistical overview of the college’s success since 1936 –
when the Leaving Certificate Examination was established as the qualifying test for the Novitiate – noting that 104 candidates from the college had been sent to the Order, averaging 6 to 7 per year. Citing the growing commitments of the Irish Capuchin Province in Africa and America, he argues this flow must be expanded. He requests the letter be read and discussed by local priests.
