Appointment of FMC Trustees to Properties held by the Capuchin Order in Cork

Documents relating to an application to the Commissioners of Charitable Donation and Bequests for Ireland for the appointment of Fr. Eustace McSweeney OFM Cap., Fr. Donal O’Mahony OFM Cap., and Fr. Peter Rodgers OFM Cap. (FMC) as trustees of various properties in Cork. The file includes a statutory declaration to be signed by the Capuchin friars and a copy of the order from the Charitable Commissioners confirming the appointment of the FMC members as trustees. The attached schedule provides particulars of the title to the various premises in Cork held by the Capuchins including Holy Trinity Church, the adjacent Friary and other properties such as Father Mathew Hall, and the friary, school and farm at Rochestown, County Cork (31 Mar. 1987).

Cash receipts book for the Capuchin friars, Holy Trinity Friary. The book provides details of income derived from ministries, mass stipends and collections, alms, bequests, pensions and various donations to the community. The accounts are periodically signed by Fr. Anthony Boran OFM Cap., Provincial Bursar. Monthly summaries of receipts for the years 1980-81 are provided at the end of the volume. The next volume in this sequence is at CA HT/3/1/12.

Minute Book

Minute and notice book of the brothers of the Third Order of St. Francis attached to the Capuchin Friary, Church Street. The minutes of monthly meetings refer to notices for novices, arrangements for pilgrimages and retreats, matters pertaining to attendance and observance, and notices of sick and deceased members. The title on the front cover reads ‘Notices Brothers Fraternity’. There is a gap in the minutes from Feb. 1968 to April 1974 and from the latter date until Aug. 1980.

Diary of mass celebrants (and confessors) at the Church of St. Francis, Kilkenny. Includes bookings for masses at St. Luke’s Hospital and at other locations.

Feis Account Book

Account book with records relating to entry payments from schools, participants and teachers. Some of the pages have typescript notices pasted in indicating the competition entered such as ‘preparatory elocution, girls, 11-12 years’.

Mass Register

Register of masses at Holy Trinity Church. The volume contains periodic totals of masses said for benefactors, for the Provincial Minister and Definitory, and for other intentions. The first page contains an annotation: ‘Mass Book: Jan. 1983-Aug. 1987. 1) Daily Mass for benefactors; 2) January 1984. Application of masses for the intention of the Minister General ceased’.

The entries relate to money derived from masses received and said, the amount transferred (presumably to the Provincial Minister) and the amount retained by the community. With monthly summaries. The figures were probably transferred from the ledger extant at CA KK/1/1/3/8.
