A list of retreats and missions given by the Capuchin friars of Holy Trinity Friary, Charlotte Quay, Cork, in 1895. Many of the retreats were given by Fr. Bernard Jennings OSFC, Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC and Fr. Pascal Meade OSFC.

Deed of covenant of title for the assignment of properties on Charlotte Quay from Thomas Wellbank Morgan, 13 Blackheath Rise, Lewisham, Kent, and others to Fr. Maurice (Nicholas) Murphy OSFC, Fr. Thomas (Matthew) O’Connor OSFC, Fr. Joseph (Bernard) Jennings OSFC and Fr. Edward (Peter) Bowe OSFC, Charlotte Quay, Cork. The deed refers to the intended purchase by the Capuchin friars of the said premises as set out in a deed of assignment dated 21 Jan. 1895. With a declaration of James Scanlan, 69 South Mall, Cork, agent, affirming that he has, for the past sixteen years, received the rents of the Charlotte Quay properties for Thomas Wellbank Morgan. 1 Jan. 1895.

Assignment from Theodore Frederick Carroll, 80 South Mall, to Fr. Matthew Thomas O’Connor OSFC, Fr. Bernard Joseph Jennings OSFC and Fr. Peter Edward Bowe OSFC, Charlotte Quay, of the residue of a lease dated 18 Mar. 1762 from Charles Dunbar to James Morrison, William Fritton and Ebenezer Morrison referring to a portion of the ‘marsh called Island Nagay adjoining the Corporation Marsh in the south suburbs of the city of Cork’. Reconveyance from Sebastian Henry Petre, Fitzalan House, Arundel Street, London, and Constance Mary Lee, Mill Hill, Middlesex, to Fr. Bernard Joseph Jennings OSFC, Fr. Peter Edward Bowe, Fr. Matthew Thomas O’Connor OSFC and other Capuchin friars, Church Street, Dublin, of a plot of ground on the west side of Church Street known as number 142 ‘together with the Roman Catholic Church erected on the said plot or parcel of ground called or known by the name of “Saint Mary of the Angels”’. In consideration of the principal money and interest secured on the mortgage of the said parcel of ground on Church Street.

Assignment from Fr. John Laurence O’Flynn OSFC to Fr. James Edward Tommins OSFC, Fr. Daniel Patrick O’Reilly OSFC, Capuchin Convent, Dublin, Fr. Patrick Joseph Columbus Maher OSFC, Capuchin Convent, Kilkenny, and Fr. Edmund Thomas Dillon OSFC, Capuchin Convent, Cork, of the leasehold interest in premises on Walkin Street in consideration of 5s. The lease recites an earlier lease (dated 31 Aug. 1855) from Frances and Grace Blair to Fr. James Lewis O’Reardon [var. Louis O’Riordan] and Fr. John Laurence O’Flynn of the ‘gateway and yard formerly held by Humphrey Semple and the house at present occupied by Thomas Aylward … and the plot of ground in the possession of the said Rev. John Laurence O’Flynn which said demised premises are situate in Walkin Street in the parish of Saint Mary, City of Kilkenny … forever at the yearly rent of £6’. The file also includes a conveyance (19 Aug. 1897) from Beledia Juliana Maher to Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC and others of the said gateway and premises on Walkin Street to hold in fee farm subject to the rents payable. It is noted that Beledia Juliana Maher was the principal heiress-at-law of the estate of the late Fr. Patrick Joseph Columbus Maher OSFC.

Writ of summons to John Hyland, Clonmoran, County Kilkenny, executor of the will of the late Margaret Delahunty (d. 21 July 1894), to appear at the High Court of Justice, probate division, to state whether he will bear the burden of the execution of said will. The guardian (Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC) of the Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, is named is named as one of the beneficiaries of the will.

Letter from Michael J. Dwyer, Main Street, Roscrea, to Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC, expressing his joy in having a branch of the organisation established in Roscrea.

Letter from Joseph W. Cleary, National Education Office, to Fr. Mark McDonnell OSFC, Church Street, enclosing a printed draft of the rules (particularly in respect of funding) for Evening National Schools. With a letter from P.E. Lemass to Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC informing him that St. Francis’ Male Evening School has been recognised by the Office of National Education. Also includes a memorandum noting that St. Francis’ School has received a capitation grant of £15 15s 0d from the Commissioners of Education.

Declaration of George Lynch (aged 94), Ulverton House, Dalkey, affirming that his father William Lynch of Roscrea, County Tipperary, died at Dr. Steevens’ Hospital, Dublin, in 1827. He also states that his brother, Gilbert, died intestate in Sheffield in 1830 at the age of 22. The declaration was made for the satisfaction of Fr. Edward (Peter) Bowe OSFC and relates to the purchase by the Capuchin friars of premises on Carter’s Lane. (See CA CS/2/2/8/3).

Letter from the Most Rev. Abraham Brownrigg, Bishop of Ossory, to Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC, Provincial Minister, referring to an anonymous letter published in the 'Kilkenny Journal' appearing to advocate ‘the introduction of a Boys’ Brigade into Kilkenny to be worked by and under the supervision of your fathers in Walkin Street’. Brownrigg expresses his disapproval of such a proposal. With a letter from Fr. Jarlath Hynes OSFC assuring the Bishop that ‘our fathers in Kilkenny have no knowledge whatsoever of the anonymous letter … nor has there ever been any question or thought amongst us … of having anything to do with a Boys’ Brigade in your city’.
