A collection of street ballad leaflets assembled by Fr. Stanislaus Kavanagh OFM Cap. (1876-1965), a Capuchin friar, in 1921. The handbills relate to events in the War of Independence from 1919-21. This contentious period produced its share of controversial literature mainly in the form of leaflets, handbills, ballads and other forms of popular street literature. The treatment of prisoners during the War of Independence was the subject of political and social outrage and was reflected in popular ballads celebrating the lives of Kevin Barry, Patrick Moran, Thomas Traynor and other republican prisoners executed in Mountjoy Jail in Dublin and in other locations following courts martial from 1920-1. Most of the ballads recounted popular stories told in simple metre, and set to (mostly) traditional airs. The ballad titles include:

Photographic prints showing the visit of Nelson Mandela to the Church of St. Mary of the Angels, Athlone, Cape Town, South Africa, on 12 September 1993. Mandela was accompanied by Allan Boesak. Some of the photographs are annotated on the reverse by the donors: James P. Rigney and Fr. Macartan Hyland OFM Cap. The photographs were printed in 'The Cape Argus' newspaper. The file also includes:
• A description of the circumstances surrounding Mandela’s visit to Athlone Parish Church by Fr. Wilfrid Aherne OFM Cap. (1923-2004).
• An annotated copy of the sermon preached on the occasion by Fr. Wilfrid Aherne OFM Cap. A copy of Mandela’s brief address after communion referring to the support offered by the local congregation during the apartheid era
• The welcome address given by Huxley Joshua, a prominent member of the ANC in the locality.
• Documents (including a copy newspaper cutting from 'The Southern Cross', 26 Sept. 1993) referring to the controversy over Mandela’s taking of communion during the Mass.

Photographic prints of Pope Paul VI (1897-1978) compiled for publication in 'The Capuchin Annual'. Most of the prints are annotated on the reverse. The photographs are mostly press agency prints from the United Press International Agency and Pontificia Fotografia Felici. The file includes the following images:
• The pilgrimage to the Holy Land by Pope Paul VI in January 1964. The photographs show the Pontiff greeting various dignitaries in Israel and Jordan including Patriarch Athenagoras I of Constantinople and King Hussein of Jordan.
• The visit to the United States by Pope Paul VI in October 1965. The photographs show him greeting U Thant, United Nations Secretary General, his address to the UN General Assembly, and celebrating a mass for peace at Yankee Stadium, New York. The file also includes some film negatives.
• The visit to Turkey by Pope Paul VI in July 1967. The prints show the Pontiff greeting Shenork I Kaloustian, the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, and various Orthodox Christian Prelates.
• The visit to Uganda by Pope Paul VI in August 1969. One of the prints shows Fr. Killian Flynn OFM Cap. (1905-1972), an Irish Capuchin missionary, greeting Pope Paul VI.
