Due to wartime conditions, novices cannot be sent to France, hence permission for temporary novitiate at Clonsilla is requested and granted. Changed to Roebuck with condition that a home for the Aged Poor will be established on the site. The Hermitage, Roebuck, is acquired.

The Hermitage, Roebuck, opens as a home for Aged Men. The Grange at Clonsilla is sold to the Daughters of Charity (cf Daughters of Charity, File No.1, letters 27 June 1943 and 29 August 1943.) Roebuck Castle is acquired and received the residents of the Hermitage leaving that property exclusively for use as a novitiate. Permission for permanent novitiate at Roebuck Castle is granted with the condition of its use as a home for the aged.

Mount Street hospital project develops slowly but then collapses due to lack of financial and human resources. Decision re secondary day school reversed and congregation takes on Edenmore, Raheny (cf File Augustinians No 2.)

Typed letter to + McQuaid from Mena Cribben, Clonshough, Raheny, wishing to draw his attention to articles by Angela MacNamara in The Sunday Press. She believes that Mrs. MacNamara was meeting opposition in her efforts to give classroom instruction on sex to secondary school girls. She, Mrs. Cribben, has written an article refuting Mrs. MacNamara but The Sunday Press has refused to print it.

Director of French Sisters of Charity (Daughters of Charity) firmly declines to leave Sisters in difficult conditions at Glencree. (see Oblates of Mary files). A beginning of secondary school at Sybil Hill, Raheny. Proposal from laity to have Vincentian secondary school at Arklow. Sisters will undertake new school at Ballyfermot. (see French Sisters of Charity file, also known as Daughters of Charity).

Copy of typed letter to P.J. Hillery, Minister for Education, from +McQuaid. He has investigated the alleged defection of the Headmaster of St. Paul’s College, Raheny. He is satisfied it was a ‘bottle of smoke.’

Correspondence between Micheal Breathnach, Dept. of Education, and +McQuaid concerning the contributions to new schools. In Mount Merrion the two schools -Christian Brothers and Sacred Heart Sisters- will each receive £600 from the Parish, while in Raheny the Parish will contribute £400 to the Raheny School. Fr. Wm. Fitzpatrick has agreed to replace the late Mgr. McArdle on the representative Committee.
