Souvenir programme for the opening of an extension to Father Mathew Hall, Church Street. The programme provides an itinerary and guide to the first Father Mathew Feis, the Irish Trade Mark Exhibition and the Father Mathew Museum. The literary adjudicators for the Feis were Eoin MacNeill, Brian O’Higgins, George O’Moonan and Sinéad Ní Fhlannagáin. The new extension included a stage, dressing rooms, storage rooms, a new gallery, a ‘lantern and cinematograph operating chamber’ and a refreshment room.

Robert French (1841-1917) was the chief photographer responsible for photographing three quarters of the Lawrence Collection which is now held in the National Library of Ireland. The printed caption numbers read: 1463-6. W.L.

A bound volume containing newspaper clippings containing a transcription by An tAthair Peadar Ó Laoghaire of a medieval text on the life of Colum Cille (also known as Columba) (c.521-597), the founder of the monastery of Iona. The articles also contain translations and textual notes. The clippings are undated, but all the articles are headed ‘Our Gaelic Department / Colum Cille’ and are likely taken from the ‘Cork Examiner’.
‘Irish View Scenery’ cards issued by Gallaher Cigarette Company Ltd. The cards are numbered: ‘No. 60: Father Mathew’s R.C. Church, Cork’; ‘No. 310: Father Mathew Statue, Cork’. The cards were issued by Gallaher Ltd. between 1908 and 1910. The complete set runs to 600 cards. Many of the photographs were taken by Robert John Welch from Belfast, and by William Lawrence, a Dublin-based photographer and studio owner. With a cover letter (dated 18 June 1982) to Fr. Nessan Shaw OFM Cap. from Walter McGrath explaining their provenance.

Prints of Charlotte House at the corner of Queen Street and Charlotte Quay (now known as Father Mathew Street and Father Mathew Quay) in Cork. The building is five storeys in height. The gable end is topped with a cross. The building was located on a site on the south-east corner of Queen Street. Fr. Cherubini Mazzini OSFC converted this house into a residence for the friars and Charlotte House, as it was known, remained in use until 1884 when the Capuchins took up residence in the present-day Holy Trinity Friary built by Fr. Simeon Gaudillot OSFC (1836-1910). The print may have been taken from a volume.
Illustrated souvenir of the Great Temperance Demonstration held in Longford Town on 3 July 1910. Includes photographs and reports on speeches at the demonstration including an address by Most Rev. Joseph Hoare, Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise, Fr. Aloysius Travers OSFC and many other public figures.
Correspondence of William Connolly & Son, contractors, 37-39 Upper Dominick Street, Dublin, regarding the repair and decoration of the altar and other furnishings (including confessional boxes) at St. Mary of the Angels, Church Street. Correspondents include William Connolly, Ashlin & Coleman, architects, 7 Dawson Street, and Fr. Laurence Dowling OSFC, guardian, Church Street. On 21 Jan. 1908 William Connolly proposed to Ashlin & Coleman that he would ‘execute the works in the manufacture and erection of screens at St. Mary of the Angels … in accordance with your designs … for the sum of £575. The work to be executed in the best, seasoned Austrian oak, wax polished, and in the highest class of workmanship’. Other work included the building of a new stone porch to the south side of the Church. With bill of costs for said works. See also CA CS/2/6/1/1.
