‘House Book’ – account of properties and endowments of St Joseph’s Blackrock at its opening in September 1873. With some loose pages: A list of important documents (title deeds etc) at one time in the St Joseph’s Blackrock safe, an undated typed description of House Property belonging to St Joseph’s, Blackrock, a declaration by a relative of Alexander Grant dated 1883 regarding claims on the property of his late mother, and a page referring to two bequests.

Secretary’s Book for the Third Order of St. Francis

The volume is titled: ‘Secretary’s book for the Third Order of St. Francis attached to the Capuchin Convent, Walkin Street, Kilkenny, the Reverend Father Albert Mitchell OFSC, Director, [Feast of the] Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1873’. The volume contains brief minutes of the meetings of the Third Order of St. Francis in Kilkenny. Information is supplied in respect of the election of councillors, resolutions passed and other membership and organisational matters. The final page of the volume contains a ‘list of Franciscan Manuals loaned out to members of the 3rd Order of St. Francis on Sunday, 5th November 1876 at 2d each’.

Income and expenditure book for the Third Order of St. Francis

Quarterly income and expenditure account book for the Third Order of St. Francis, Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny. Income was principally derived from subscriptions, the supply of habits, cords and scapulars and collections at masses. Expenditure accounts include money expended on masses, washing, cloth for habits, relief for sick members, candlesticks, manuals, and other devotional objects. Towards the end of the volume there is an account of subscription payments by members listed under baptismal names, names in religion, address and record of monthly contributions (1876-1891).

Assignment of Barbara Adams and Francis St. George Adams, Belfield, Queenstown, Cork, to William Adams, Cork (with the consent of George Thornton Adams) of the residue of a lease of premises on Queen Street dated 1 Jan. 1846 (see CA HT/2/1/1/9) in consideration of £350.

Register book of the sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis

Register (reception book) of female members of the Third Order of St. Francis attached to the Capuchin Friary in Kilkenny. The title page notes that this register excludes names from ‘the old reception book’. The entries are listed under name, address, date of reception, name of sister, by whom received, and married or single status. Occasional remarks such as ‘deceased’, departed for Dublin, America etc. are also listed for some individuals. Enclosure: A manuscript list of names of sisters of the Third Order in Kilkenny who presented a silver gilt monstrance (at a cost of £107) to the friary (19 Nov. 1909). The names and addresses of the benefactors are given. The final page of the register contains a note by Fr. Canice Bourke OFM Cap. indicating that the book has been closed and a new register opened (11 Apr. 1940).

The attached map shows the lands bounding the Newtown Castlebyrne land. The bounding lands are held by Andrew Reynolds, Edmond Burrows [Burroughs] and Mathew Byrne.
