Originally a printed book: 'In memoriam, Peter Fenelon' Collier (New York: privately printed, 1910), 113 pp. The book was subsequently used to house newspaper cuttings mainly relating to the history and friars of the Capuchin community, Holy Trinity Friary in Cork. The volume includes cuttings relating to triduums, ordinations, transfers, provincial chapters, missions and retreats, the Third Order of St. Francis, a note on the Father Mathew Chalice, and various Capuchin apostolates in Cork. The volume also contains obituaries of Fr. Bernard Jennings OSFC (d. 26 Dec. 1904); Fr. Cyril O'Sullivan OSFC (9 Dec. 1921); Fr. Fiacre Brophy OSFC (d. 5 Oct. 1926). Includes an original photographic print of Fr. Fiacre’s funeral; Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC (d. 25 Nov. 1926); Fr. Dermot O’Reilly OFM Cap. (d. 9 May 1945); Fr. Crispin Brennan OFM Cap. (d. 3 July 1949); Fr. Pacificus Ryan OFM Cap. (d. 1 July 1950); Fr. John Butler OFM Cap. (d. 3 Oct. 1950); Archbishop Sylvester Mulligan OFM Cap. (d. 23 Oct. 1950); Fr. Thomas Dowling OFM Cap. Lease by Fr. Edward (Peter) Bowe OSFC, Fr. Bartholomew (Fiacre) Brophy OSFC and Fr. Nicholas (Maurice) Murphy OSFC, Church Street, to Bernard O’Reilly, dairyman, of the aforementioned old dwelling house and dairy yard situated on the north side of Carter’s Lane off Smithfield for 999 years in consideration of £182 and at the yearly rent of 1s. One of the covenants attached to the lease specifies that the lessee ‘will not use the said premises or permit the same to be used as an appurtenant to any of the purposes of a brewer, distiller, malt house or storage for the sale of intoxicating liquors or for any asylum hospital or other institution for any offensive, noisy or dangerous trade, business, manufacture or occupation of any nuisance …’. With a draft of the lease prepared by T.J. Furlong, 11 Eustace Street, Dublin. The file also includes a letter from Bernard O’Reilly to Fr. Fiacre Brophy OSFC on the subject of the said lease (1 Sept. 1914).

Letters for Fr. Fiacre Brophy OSFC and Fr. Edward Walsh OSFC, guardians, from the Irish Catholic Church Property Insurance Company, 11-12 Fleet Street, Dublin, regarding yearly payments for renewal premiums on fire insurance policies.

Letters from the Most Rev. Daniel Colahan, Bishop of Cork, to the guardians of Holy Trinity Friary, Father Mathew Quay, Cork. The recipients include Fr. Fiacre Brophy OSFC and Fr. Flannan Downing OSFC. Some of the letters were written by the Bishop’s secretary, James Hurley. Many of the letters relate to requests from the Bishop to the Capuchin community for confessors (particularly for convents of religious women) and to other aspects of ecclesiastical administration in the diocese. Reference is made to masses for benefactors including the Christopher Dunn bequest. On 9 Feb. 1940, Bishop Colahan wrote a circular letter to the clergy warning of the need to the keep the Church ‘detached and Independent of party politics’. The file also includes several printed pastoral letters: 5 Apr. 1942, referring to the ‘sacrament of matrimony’; 16 Mar. 1947, warning of the threat of ‘Communist’ activities in Cork.

Letter to Fr. Joseph Fenlon OSFC, guardian, from J.C. & A. Blake, solicitors, 27 Marlboro Street, enclosing a bill of costs for completing and registering a deed of conveyance of all the property at Father Mathew Quay and at Rochestown to Fathers Fiacre Brophy OSFC, Jarlath Hynes OSFC and Augustine Hayden OSFC as trustees. The total costs amounted to £28 6s 0d.

Letters from James Finbarre McMullen (1859-1933), architect, South Mall, and 34 Mary Street, Cork, and others to Fr. Bernard Jennings OSFC, Fr. Fiacre Brophy OSFC, Fr. Matthew O’Connor OSFC and Fr. Martin Hyland OSFC concerning applications made by the Capuchin friars to acquire a portion of the Cork Assembly Rooms building. See also CA HT/2/4/1 and CA HT/2/1/1/25.

Agreement of Fr. Fiacre Bartholomew Brophy OSFC and Fr. Matthew Thomas O’Connor OSFC, Father Mathew Quay, Cork, and Fr. Jarlath Thomas Hynes, OSFC and Fr. Augustine John Hayden OSFC, Rochestown, Cork (the vendors), with Joseph Sullivan, King Street, Cork, merchant, for the residue of a term of 800 years granted in a lease from Joseph King to John Reynolds, dated 28 Feb. 1805, at the yearly rent of £34 2s 6d. The agreement is subject to certain legal stipulations and covenants including the requirement to keep the top garret and second floor windows which overlook the ‘recreation gardens of the vendors fitted with muffed and ribbed glass’.
