Three images of sculptural monuments most likely related to the workshop of James Pearse. One of card images is annotated (‘Subjects from Pulpit, Athlone’).

Expense journal of William Woodlock, 13 Hardwicke Place, Dublin. A manuscript annotation on the title page gives the date 13 August 1863. A note on the first page by William Woodlock reads ‘1863 / Kate [his sister] left Dublin, August 11, (Tuesday) for Bruges. Joseph [his brother] left Dublin, Thursday, August 13 for Cork, on his way to Australia … Am now left alone, and open a new account. W[illiam] W[oodlock]’. An additional note at the bottom of the opening page reads ‘Joseph sailed from Queenstown for Brisbane, Queensland, in the “Fiery Star”, Wednesday, August 19, 1863’. The remainder of the volume contains entries for routine expenditures including washing, cigars, stamps, and stationary.

A volume containing entries compiled by Fr. Patrick Sheehan seemingly covering the years 1874 to 1875. The dated chronicles are titled ‘A leaf from a life’. The diary-like entries are mostly routine providing a record of religious observance and meetings with various clergymen, religious, and lay individuals particularly in the Cloyne diocese in County Cork. The opening pages have been ripped from the volume and the first dated entry reads ‘Sept. 1. 1874. As usual, Met C.B. accompanied him home. Visited the original pepper in company Frs. Field & O’Keeffe’. Some literary content, personal reflections, and references are included in the text. Loose expense accounts are inserted towards the end of the volume. The entries in these accounts include ‘charity list’, rail and travel expenses, tailoring, stationary and other forms of routine expenditure.

Letter from Mary MacSwiney (Máire Nic Shuibhne), 23 Suffolk Street, Dublin, to ‘Brother Shannon’ (Br. Senan Moynihan OFM Cap.), St. Bonaventure’s Capuchin Hostel, Cork, re the possibility of publishing of ‘Scéal “Sheandúin” in the ‘Sinn Féin’ newspaper. The file includes a copy of MacSwiney’s letter to Diarmuid Ó Murchadha about the matter in which she suggests that the journal would have a ‘wider and possibly more appreciative circle of readers’ in ‘Sinn Féin’. With Ó Murchadha’s reply to MacSwiney.

Receipt and expenditure book of the Capuchin Publications Office. The accounts provide details of cash lodgements, and income accruing from advertising, sales of the 'Orange Terror' offprint, the 'Angelic Shepherd', the ‘Irish Saints’ Cards’, designed by Richard King, and from the Association Patrons of 'The Capuchin Annual'. Includes figures for expenditure in respect of salaries, postage, and payments made to John English & Co., printers. The first part of the journal includes a list of promoters (possibly for 'The Capuchin Annual') and two inserts of accounts from 1938 which are seemingly unconnected to the Publications Office.

Other letters refer to orders and requests for the 'Annual', expressions of gratitude for complimentary copies, and reviews of the text. The file also includes several original letters to Fr. Copy prints compiled for an article by Dermot Keogh titled ‘William Martin Murphy & the origins of the 1913 Lockout’ published in 'The Capuchin Annual' (1977), pp 130-58. The file includes copy prints of contemporary newspapers covering the Lockout dispute and images of William Martin Murphy, James Connolly and Jim Larkin.

The file includes press-agency (Keystone View Company, Fleet Street, London) photographs of the proclamation of the Spanish Republic in 1931. The prints are annotated on the reverse and include:

• ‘A street at San Sebastian, Spain, crowded with enthusiastic Republicans, after the Republic had been proclaimed there’.
• Soldiers armed with machine guns photographed outside a Church in Madrid, waiting for rioters. 13 May 1931.
• ‘A charge is to be brought against King Alfonso on the grounds that he assisted in the promotion of disturbances in Spain with the object of overthrowing or discrediting the Republican government. As a result of the serious fighting between the Republicans and Monarchists grave results have been registered. The Jesuit convent of Iglesais, and other religious institutes have been attacked and burned down by Republican communists’.

• ‘Civil Guards dispersing the huge crowd of rioters in the streets of Madrid. Popular hostility to the manner in which the monarchist propaganda is being organised in Madrid culminated in serious anti-monarchist riots, when the Civil Guard fired on the great crowds, during which many casualties were reported. As a result of the tense situation, martial law has been proclaimed in the city’.

Photographic prints relating to the state visit to Ireland of King Baudouin (1930-1993) and Queen Fabiola (1925-2014) of Belgium in May 1968. The file was compiled for a photographic feature published in 'The Capuchin Annual' (1969). The file includes press prints showing their arrival at Dublin Airport, their attendance at a state banquet at Dublin Castle, laying a wreath at the military cemetery in Arbour Hill, and a visit to Áras an Uachtaráin where King Baudouin played hurling with President Éamon de Valera and the Taoiseach, Jack Lynch. Frank Aiken, Minister for External Affairs, is also present in some of the photographs
