Happy Death and Purgatorial Society Certificate

Certificate of Mrs Callaghan’s membership of the Happy Death and Purgatorial Society attached to Holy Trinity Church, Cork. The certificate notes that Mrs Callaghan is a promoter of the said Society. The certificate is signed by Fr. Justin Hyland OFM Cap., guardian. Photographic prints of the exterior and interior of the Church are extant on the certificate.
Hanna Sheehy-Skeffington Tribute

A tribute to Hanna Sheehy Skeffington published in the ‘Irish Workers’ Weekly Review’, a radical socialist newspaper, in May 1946. She died in Dublin (aged 68) on 20 April 1946.
Hand-coloured emblem of the Catholic Boys’ Brigade

A hand-coloured sketch of the emblem of the Catholic Boys’ Brigade, founded at the Capuchin Friary, Church Street, in March 1894. The legend or motto reads: ‘Valour and Innocence’. Two saintly figures (on the left St. Michael the Archangel, and on the right possibly St. Joseph, the patron saint of the organisation) stand between a Boys’ Brigade member. The Brigade member is identified by the standard uniform: a simple rosette and sash with a pillbox cap (a popular military cap of the day) worn over everyday clothing. Two drafts of the emblem are extant. The drafts vary slightly in composition. With a photographic print of the finished emblem. The photographic print (on card) was produced by W.F. O’Connor, 1 Wellington Quay, corner of Parliament Street, Dublin.

A handbook for parish missions and retreats compiled by Fr. Silvester O’Flynn OFM Cap. for use by Capuchin friars. It is noted that the handbook was ‘the fruit of a seminar on preaching organised in April 1983 by Fr. Michael Duffy OFM Cap., Director of Missions and Retreats’. The text has a forward by Fr. Eustace McSweeney OFM Cap., Provincial Minister.

Resolution of the Father Mathew Hall Committee admonishing a Mr. Nicolls who ‘has violated the custom of this committee by publishing what purports to be the details of our private deliberations’. The resolution also defends the rights of Fr. Columbus Maher OSFC as President of the Sacred Thirst Sodality and avers that Mr. Nicolls ‘was the only member who ever introduced politics here’.

A guide to Ards Forest Park and Sheephaven Bay published by Irish Forest and Wildlife Service. The book has been annotated by Fr. David Kelleher OFM Cap. The guide reads: 'The Stewart family held Ards until 1926, the property being known as the Stewart-Bam estate in its later years from the marriage in 1910 of the heiress, Miss Eva Stewart to Sir Pieter Bam, a native of South Africa. The great estate was finally broken up following its acquisition by the Irish Land Commission in 1926 and the area that was to become our Forest Park came into our possession in 1929'.
