The lands mentioned are Prospect or Saint John's, situated in Newtown Castle Byrne, also known as Newtown on the Strand or Ash Tree Field, parish of Monkstown, half barony of Rathdown, in 'the village of Blackrock', County Dublin.

Examples of lecture topics and motions for debate are: 'Socialism', 'Belgium', 'Babylonia', 'South African War', 'A Pilgrimage to Rome', 'Which is the more necessary for Ireland just now, Home Rule or a Catholic University?', 'The Religious Crisis in France' and 'Some objects of Astronomical interest at the present Day', among many others. Not all of these are present in this volume, as some seem to have been documented in another volume of meeting minutes.
