A typescript annotation on the reverse of the print reads 'Soissons cathedral re-opened 15 years after German bombing / The Soissons historic cathedral, one of the finest gothic buildings in the world, which was bombed by the Germans in 1915 and seriously damaged, was solemnly reopened today by Cardinal [Charles] Binet and many bishops / The cathedral is partly restored / The procession leaving the cathedral'.

The market is held every Saturday but very few tourists find their way to this interesting spot in the ancient city’. (bottom) ‘Bethlehem – an unusual scene. The market place is a spot off the track for pilgrims and tourists’.
