Income and expenditure ledger for the Capuchin Friary at Rochestown, County Cork. Expenditure entries record both the costs associated with the construction and furnishing of the Friary Church and routine household and community expenses, including coal and fuel, foodstuffs, wine, travel, labourers’ wages, clothing, postage, stationery and miscellaneous items. Income was derived from Mass offerings, church collections, rents, alms, questing, donations, pensions and retreats. The volume contains a separate account recording expenditure of £1,224 on the construction and furnishing of the church. This account is endorsed and signed by Fr. Chrysostom of Lyons OFM Cap., Minister Provincial of Paris and Commissary-General for Ireland. The title page is inscribed: ‘Account book of income and expenses of St. Joseph’s Monastery, Rochestown, beginning 10 February 1877’.

Some slight wear to the spine and cover ends. Internally, the volume is firmly bound.
