Various matters prior to Father Priors visit. From Mary Martin to Prior of Glenstal.

Dear Father Prior
This letter will probably reach you in time for the feast of the Immaculate Conception with all my very best wishes to you, all the community, teachers, boys, and staff. I shall be much united with Our Lady and you all on that day in special prayers and know you will not forget me in yours.
I have not written much lately as I await your visit to talk all matters over. Also, the getting up so early only for an hour leaves me very tired, and I have not been feeling quite so well the last few days. The big toe is still inclined to be septic, so I fear I shall not be allowed home this week but probably next week.
Hope you have good news of Rose

If she was insured she should of course
draw that from The day she left Glenstal
untill she is fit again On the other
hand if she is not qualified for the
Insurance you will have to pay her till she
goes home + give her notice that you are
not needing her next term.
I enclose the dining room equipment
book for Mai so that she will leave
all in order before she goes on her
holiday + hand over the silver to Fr

maid up to time of my leaving Glenstal

Is it time that one of your Fathers
( a german) is at Beaumount ill. I was
told there was + I cannot think who it can
be. I hope if so he is not seriously ill.
Would it be too much trouble, if Matron has
the time to pack my things to bring them up
leave them at the Station my sister can call
for them- I enclose the key of small cupboard

you might give to Matron as all my letters
are in that + I should like to have
them when I get home _
I am not sure whether I shall be here
or at home when you come up but
all I wish to convey to you is that
you are heartily, welcome to stay at
Greenbank for a night or more if it
is convenient for you on the other hand
I quite understand Mr gooss is Mrs G. staf
will be more convenient as they are
nearer the city but if I were at home
you did not want to waste the day
hours with me you could come out when
you have all your business finished
have dinner then have a long talk
and stay the night. However I leave
everything to you to arrange as suits you
best.

My dear Father,

I am very grieved to hear of your further cross except for the assurance that is a further sign of God’s love for you. I had letter from Dom David much grieved.

I look forward to seeing Mrs. Thorp today. I thought it was yesterday she was coming up. I thank God all goes well with my daughters and that their spirit continues to be good. Dear Father, I value this more than all the money in the world, and this is the foundation in the Gospel. I am sure our Lord means He will not leave us starving, and even to starve for love of Him is nothing if the spirit of Christ dwells in us.

I’m still without a house. Yesterday was the most successful, today I go to see a few more. It is difficult to get anything at a reasonable price and then with accommodation for us to increase. I saw one yesterday, Greenfield on the Donnybrook road 8 mins walk to tram and Church. Bus passes the gate. It is a house that I feel, if all goes well, would suit to buy next year. There are good outhouses for building purposes later on and a garden supplying fruit and veg, a good hen run, and if necessary enough grass for a cow. Pray God to direct me in all things.

I await your letter of tomorrow with all your instructions for the school. We all here think a green is a nicer color than the red for a school, as you have in mind, but if you decide on the red, it is there—the blazer at Clery’s,Tie at Tyson, and you know of this. The green has been sent as an alternative.

Have you had time to write to His Excellency yet over the letter for Propaganda? As I am, anxious we are in order with the S. Congregation. I enclose the last letter from His Excellency, which he was posting the day I went out to see him about the house. I will not go to see him again till I have something definite, as he is very busy these days.

Let me know any more thoughts about the Matron if you have, if you have seen Miss Hayes. Thank my child Mary for her long letter. I was delighted to receive it. The priest seemed pleased with their visit. I am glad to see they manage well without me. God bless them and make them more and more after His and Mary’s heart.

I have not had time to see my children except Miss O’Rourke. All goes well with them, I hear it. They all realize we must work hard and cooperate with grace. With God’s help, we must make the Society then to work all, if ahead. You will now have a quiet time and pray and think for all that lies before you. I see much of you, Glenstal. United always in love and prayer in the hearts of Jesus and Mary.

I cannot say what day I shall be back but shall try to be back on Friday or Saturday, if not early next week.

I shall have the lists ready so that if you wish and I cannot return till next week, I can forward them on from here if you send me list of address.

for Glenstal. Someone heard she was being engaged and rang me up thinking I was engaging her. I shall speak more fully when we meet. Be careful and get good references and then take up their character before engaging any more.

I am glad to hear Miss Hayes gets on well, but do you realize she is depending and counting much on Miss Moynagh and Nichols? It is Moynagh that I think is keeping the peace. We can talk it all over when we meet.

I hope to have time to write more fully tomorrow and remember me to my daughters and tell them to pray much in their work. Every step means more activity from the devil. We are closely bound to the Cross in love and union with Jesus, our souls.

My dear Father,

You will have little time to read long letters. This is only a few lines to say I am with you all the time and pray all may go very well at Glenstal, and to thank you from my very heart for everything.

I am very tired, so have decided to take a few days’ rest before starting hard work with M.M.M.

Miss O’Rourke has just arrived, looking very well and happy.

I rang up Barlow Brisive. The flat there, I fear, is --- too small owing to your stove, so I have asked them to look out for a larger one, or would you like to have it (old playroom, billiard room)?

I shall send you down catalogue of stove for there.

You will hardly have time, but will you ask Dom David to tell my children that I have all arranged at St. josephs and just to wire me what day they come? I shall meet them at Dun Laoghaire Pier.

They are to remain in the train till things bridge to come straight out. God in His usual love has, I think, arranged all for me well there.

They will be able to continue their hidden life of charity, do the works of the little home at Nazareth. I shall probably make the weekend retreat there with them and get them settled down.

No news of the house yet, but everything is just as I would wish, and it all reminds me and keeps me in union with Jesus, My Spouse.

May God clear the way for you at every step and give you all the grace and strength you need.
