Typed minutes of ‘V’ Committee meeting. The following items are mentioned in the report: information sought on Joseph Deasy. With reference to a letter by Fr. Nash, S.J., the City Manager made an order to close all cinemas on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of Holy Week. Prior to this owners themselves agreed to close, except those in Malahide, Skerries and Balbriggan. The National Co-op Council held a meeting to discuss the Folk High School at Skerries. Groups represented included the ICA, the Gaelic League and the GAA. Fr. Nash thought there was nothing to worry about as both Dr. McKevitt and Dr. Duffy were both on the Council. Attention was drawn to the Editorial in The Irish Catholic which urged its readers to cross out all the names on the ballot papers as a protest against Party government.

Refers to certain statements he (Colgan) made regarding the alleged Communist infiltration into the Labour Party. Enclosed is a copy of Deputy Larkin’s letter denying the allegations made against him and seeking an opportunity to answer specific charges. The Committee consider that they are bound in justice to have the evidence presented in a formal manner. Accordingly Senator Colgan is invited to attend a meeting with Mr. Larkin so that he will have an opportunity to reply.
