A clipping of an article providing a short historical profile of St. Peter’s Church on Barclay Street, the oldest Catholic parish in New York City. It credits Rev. Charles Whelan, an Irish Capuchin and former chaplain in Admiral De Grasse’s fleet (recommended by Lafayette), with leasing the land where the church stands in the summer of 1785.
