Scope and content

Copy letter from Fr. Peter Bowe OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, to Fr. Antonine Wilmer OFM Cap., Definitor General, regarding the ordination of new priests and the formal establishment of missions in California. Father Peter notes a lack of documentation in the Provincial Archives regarding the Mendocino Mission in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. There is mention of Archbishop Edward Hanna of San Francisco traveling to Rome. Father Peter expresses a desire to secure the Archbishop’s promised ‘foundation in or near the City’ (San Francisco) before his departure.
