Scope and content
A legal conveyance indenture granting ownership in fee simple of a plot of land in Rochestown, County Cork, for the continued use of the Capuchin Franciscan College. The grantor is Alexander John Glasgow of ‘Parenga’, Nelson, in the Colony of New Zealand. He is acting through his sole surviving lawful attorney, John Colin Mitchell, Solicitor, of 160 West George Street, Glasgow, Scotland (empowered by a Power of Attorney dated 24 December 1904). The grantees are eight Capuchin friars (including Fr. Peter Bowe OFM Cap.), all based at Father Mathew Quay in the City of Cork. The document conveys ‘All that piece or plot of land part of the lands of Rochestown in the Barony of Cork and County of Cork’ which had been for some years prior in the possession and occupation of the Grantees or their predecessors in connection with the Capuchin Franciscan College at Rochestown. The fee simple estate is granted in consideration of the sum of £5.
