This series comprises the financial record books of the Capuchin Friary at Rochestown, County Cork, dating from 1877 to 1980. The records principally consist of house account books, day books, cash lodgement books, supplier account registers, and subscription records documenting the financial administration and economic life of the friary community.
The house account books record income derived from masses, church collections, alms, questing, donations, pensions, retreats, subscriptions, transfers from other Capuchin houses, agricultural activities, livestock sales, educational fees, capitation grants, salaries, and bequests. Corresponding expenditure accounts detail routine household and community expenses including food, clothing, fuel, coal, transport, utilities, insurance, stationery, postage, wages paid to lay employees, repairs, maintenance, and other miscellaneous outgoings. Many volumes include bank reconciliations and accounts certified during Provincial visitations.
Supplementary records include a supplier account register documenting transactions with local merchants and tradesmen; day books recording detailed daily and monthly receipts and payments; a fuel expenditure ledger; a cash lodgement book recording deposits of college fees, grants, stipends, and donations; and a subscription book relating to fundraising efforts to reduce debt on a new college building.
