Scope and content

Canoncial visitation report compiled by Fr. Conrad O’Donovan OFM Cap., Provincial Minister, for the Irish Capuchin custody in the United States. The report includes commentary on the spiritual, physical and financial condition of various churches and friaries in Oregon and California. The report notes that early outposts in Lincoln, Nebraska, Abbottstown, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware, were eventually abandoned or ceded, allowing the custody to successfully achieve its goal of consolidating all religious houses exclusively in the Western United States by 1963. A bound volume used by Father Conrad for notes taken during the visitation (June-July 1966) is also extant.
