              Copy of account of a IHA meeting at 5 South Leinster Street at which Dr Noel Browne spoke. The following points were raised: the 1953 Act – the Medical Association fought against the principle that people should have the best of surgery, etc, and to an extent it has won he accepted the ‘Mother and Infant’ part of the present scheme but not the aspects……pauper medicine maternity aspect free choice of doctors educational clauses said Medical Association White Paper was appalling.

              Handwritten letter to +McQuaid from + D’Alton. Before he went out of office Dr. Browne seemed very determined to do as much harm as he could to all who opposed his Scheme. Hopes the storm has now blown over.

              Typed letter, on two pieces of yellow card, to Fr. Diffney. No. 37, Pembroke Road (CPI headquarters) broken into and papers stolen. She has been promised a look at them. Jim Larkin has issued an order to the workers in the fruit trade who are not in a union that unless they join his union he would instruct the dockers not to unload any fruit for them. Frank Clark (FF) spoke against Dr. Noel Browne at the Ard Fheis. Browne’s solicitors have written to him demanding an apology or legal proceedings would follow. As Clark represents the Fianna Fail Party in Greystones he argued that the issue is a Party one and the Party must deal with it. The new party has flopped and Browne has decided to stay in Fianna Fail. Group in Rathdown will have to get somebody of ability if they are to beat Booth. Are importing Peadar Ward, if possible, who is joining Shankill Cumann.

              Handwritten letter saying that recipient spoke to Col. Feehan, Editor of The Sunday Press, mentioning Dr. Browne’s recent activities. National Executive met on night of convention, but Browne’s name not added. Phoned Fianna Fail typist who said that FF would lose votes. She pitied Browne as it was not done with good grace. Browne’s mother died without medical assistance. IRA raids underline the importance of social study.

              Copy of a typed letter to the Taoiseach from Noel C. Browne, reminding him that he (Dr. Browne) was quite satisfied that the misapprehensions of +McQuaid, + Browne and + Staunton, at their meeting on 11th October, were satisfactorily disposed of, with the exception of health education. Asks whether the Taoiseach is withholding his approval of the Scheme due to the supposed opposition of the Hierarchy or to the possible opposition of one member of the Hierarchy?
