Regarding subversives, the trend is stronger than ever before they are exploiting the present deteriorating state of industrial relations. There are genuine grievances on the side of workers. Apropos the Telephonists’ strike bad wages and administration obtain in some branches of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs. CIE claims it is unable to give wage increases which the Joint Industrial Council has already approved. The case was cited of one employee of 25 years earning £9 a week. He has six children and needs assistance from the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In the private sector some employees are also neglected. The Committee concluded that “a general recall to restraint for the common good is needed.”
